In 2009 Weintek presented the MT8100i, the first panel on the market to adopt the 10.1” 16:9 widescreen format. Compared with the 10.4” 4:3 HMI panels in wide use until then, the 10.1” HMI not only offered a higher resolution (800 × 480 vs. 640 × 480), it also came at a more competitive price. Later, in 2013, Weintek launched the MT8100iE, fitted with a new and more powerful 600 MHz Cortex-A8 processor. The MT8100iE runs more smoothly and starts up far more quickly; on top of that, it benefits from the features and capabilities of the latest generation of software, EasyBuilder Pro.
Seeing which way the market was going, most HMI manufacturers followed suit and now build 10.1” models. Many of them also adopt the same cut-out size (192 × 138 mm) as the MT8100i. That is clear proof that Weintek sets the trends in the HMI field and helps establish the industry's standards. As a leader of the HMI market, Weintek is not content with the successes of past years. Weintek invests continuously and heavily in research and development, with innovation in mind, in order to meet its goals. Weintek aims both to meet its customers' present needs and to anticipate tomorrow's requirements, so as to always stay one step ahead of the competition. The fourth industrial revolution is taking shape, and a growing number of customers ask that HMIs be able to connect to ERP or other monitoring systems. Although Ethernet is the communication protocol most widely used between an HMI and monitoring systems, not every plant has planned for or installed Ethernet cabling. In those cases the best answer is a Wi-Fi connection. Building on the MT8101iE, Weintek is bringing two new models to market, the MT8103iE and the MT8102iE, of which the MT8103iE carries a Wi-Fi module and the MT8102iE does not. Both models are fitted with a better LCD. Designed with the help of new technology, the MT8102iE and MT8103iE come with several hardware upgrades over the earlier models. The powerful components are housed in enclosures made of a lighter material (1.3 kg down to 1 kg) and thinner (40 mm down to 36.4 mm). With the DIP switch gone, the back cover of the HMI has a sleeker, more elegant design. On these models the DIP switch functions can be reached more easily. For instance, the system settings bar can be shown or hidden by configuring the project in EasyBuilder Pro, and the screen calibration mode can be reached by touching the screen for 3 seconds after restarting the HMI. The MT8102iE and MT8103iE are fitted with a high-resolution 10.1” LCD (1024 × 600 pixels and 16.7 million colours), with wide viewing angles (T: 60° / B: 60° / L: 70° / R: 70°), as well as a longer screen life, of up to 50,000 hours. The Wi-Fi module built into the MT8103iE is made to the 802.11a/b/g/n wireless communication standards, as well as the WPA-PSK / WPA2-PSK security protocols, letting the HMI panel send and collect vital data efficiently, accurately and safely, even in a complex industrial environment.
